1. Go Boating at Princep Ghat on Hooghly

3. Enjoy Music & Light Show at the Victoria Memorial Palace
It simply CANNOT be missed because Victoria Memorial is to Kolkata what India Gate is to Delhi and what Gateway of India is to Mumbai. It is fascinating to explore the massive building that was erected as a tribute to Queen Victoria, the former empress of the British Empire. The highlight of your visit here, aside from the museum, is the daily music and light show (also known as Son-et-Lumiere).

4. Spend an Afternoon at the Botanical Gardens
Take a break between your busy, long days and visit the Botanical Gardens for a tranquil, restorative afternoon. By taking a ferry from Babughat to Howrah and then boarding a bus, the best way to get to the gardens is. One of the oldest banyan trees in the world, standing at more than 200 years old, can be found in the garden. In fact, it is one of the main attractions for visitors.

5. Go on a Tram Ride
Even though it’s a bit cheesy and retro, if you don’t take a tram ride while you’re in Kolkata, did you even go there? Let’s face it, the thought of boarding a tram and exploring the city’s historic charms is a traveler’s dream. You can board a tram at Esplanade and ride it all the way to the end or decide to get off halfway to go somewhere else.
Choose the afternoon for this trip because the tram can get quite crowded; otherwise, you risk missing the experience during the morning rush.
6. Count the stars at Birla Planetarium
The shows at Birla Planetarium are exceptional and are available in a variety of languages, despite the fact that it is comparable to planetariums found all over India. This might be a great idea if you’re travelling with kids, and if you’re travelling alone, it’s a great way to break up the monotony that vacations bring.

7. Head into the Wild at Sundarbans
The Sundarbans are NOT to be missed if you are anywhere near a 200 km radius! They are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, possibly the largest littoral mangrove belt in the world, and undoubtedly on the bucket list of every wildlife enthusiast! You can travel by train or by road to get to Sundarbans, which is about 110 km or so from Kolkata.
You need at least two to three days to explore the entire area, which is home to the most Sundari trees, Bengal Tigers, and unmatched beauty. It is highly advised that you exercise caution and abide by all local regulations while on an exploratory tour of the Sundarbans. It’s still quite unpredictable in Sundarbans, unlike other wildlife reserves. In addition to the guidelines that MUST be followed, the Sundarbans experience will stay with you forever.

8. Relive Your Childhood at Nicco Park
If you bring your kids here while you’re travelling, they will show you all their affection. But Nicco Park still doesn’t let you down if you’re travelling alone or with friends. Often referred to as the Disneyland of Kolkata, Nicco Park is a sizable, environmentally friendly area with lots of rides. The rides are truly amazing and transport you right back to your carefree childhood.

9. Shopping at Park Street, New Market and Barra Bazaar
Without going to the local markets, a trip isn’t complete. One of Kolkata’s most well-known thoroughfares is Park Street. It is popularly known as the street that never sleeps, owing to its nightlife during the 70s. It is now a foodie’s paradise because it provides the best Bengali cuisine and bakery treats (read about Flurys).
On the other hand, New Market is a shopper’s paradise. The market offers everything, including clothing and electronics. Despite the emergence of several modern stores, the authentic experience can be found in the local antique stores that have been around for a very long time.
Barra Bazaar is a one-stop shop, as the name would imply. One of India’s largest wholesale markets is there. Barra Bazaar has about 25 different markets, each specialising in a particular good. One cannot ask for anything here without receiving it, whether it be clothing, spices, or sweets.
